Technoverwhelmed? Stay mindful.

Yes, I made up that word. I'm not sure that it really works, but for this post, it evokes the multi-tasking, too much to keep track of world we inhabit where technology tends to overwhelm, rather than save time or complete tasks.

To combat any feelings of being overwhelmed, or in the interest of finding that time you used to have before all of these technologies entered your world, consider a more mindful path. My colleague, Megan Keane, recently attended a conference Photo from Flickr user Quinn DombrowskiPhoto from Flickr user Quinn Dombrowskicalled Wisdom 2.0,and she shared her thoughts on the TechSoup blog about the conference's theme of "how we can live mindfully amidst fast-paced streams of information and technologies that are becoming the daily reality for many people." Megan shared six key points from the conference that are worth a bit of mindful rumination:

  • Be selective
  • Get out of email
  • Schedule uninterrupted time to focus on important projects
  • Integrate mindfulness in the flow of your day
  • Small things do make a difference
  • Don't give up even when it all falls apart
My suggestion? Close your email and read this post. You'll be on your way to mindful acceptance of how technology can improve--not overwhelm--your life.
